看图说话
在英国,小学的教育非常有意思。J读的是学前班RECEPTION,没有教材,但是每天都有书要带回家,要求父母和她一起读。每天晚上读完后,在阅读伙伴联系本上(READING PARTNERSHIP)要写对这本书的评语。J每天带回来的都是不一样的,听她说,自己想挑哪本,就挑哪本,她就拣封面有特色的,因为她根本就不认识英语。但是,每个周末,她带回家的都是同一系列的: OXFORD READING TREE 。 关于这一系列,校长MRS J SHAW 和教务长MRS V RALLEIGH特意给每个家长写了一封信。
Dear Parents,
In your child's book bag today is one of the first books in the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme. You will see that the first books have no words and we hope that you will be able to encourage your child to talk about what is happening in the pictures and so to make up their own story.
Also in the bag is a card showing the names of the characters. We have looked at the book in school and have introduced Kipper, Biff, Chip, Mum, Dad and Floppy. It will be helpful if you can ask your child the names of the characters.
As the term continues we will send words home on a weekly basis with your child when we feel that the child is ready. It is important that we do not put the children off reading by sending words home before they are ready.

到目前为止,J 已经有三本这样的书,一本是 GETTING UP,另一本是 LOOK OUT,本周是THE HAIR CUT。这些书主人都是KIPPER,每个故事不一样。都很简单,围绕他的日常生活及趣事让孩子来表达。J用中文来讲,我先用英文讲,再翻译给她听。她最近有进步,表现在要我全部讲完英文再说中文,不像开始,每说一句英文就问什么意思呀。
其实,英语的学习是不能用翻译的,可能是开始,孩子心理还不塌实,想弄明白。也许是个过渡,每天回来都要问我几个词。如SURE,ASSEMBLY,MAGIC,WELCOME。有时候,她自己也明白什么意思。如SCHOOL LUNCH, PACK LUNCH,她告诉我,当老师问她是吃什么饭时,她说她回答是SCHOOL LUNCH。这说明她已经理解英语了,因为我从来没跟她说过,但她判断很准。
每次放学时,她都显出累的样子,她说,一会出去玩,一会又出去玩,而她是那种完全投入地玩的孩子,那么新鲜,那么紧张,还得想着英文什么意思,跟人交流要比其他小孩多一份翻译的思考。所以,可以理解她的确累,当然放学见着妈妈还要撒娇。
英国这个国家是一个阅读的国家,在地铁上,公共汽车上,你可以看到不是读书就是看报,很少有聊天的。阅读习惯就是从小培养而且与它的教育模式也有很大关系。
